Registrations of the new .jp Japanese domain are now being accepted. Regular applications began on May 7 2001 and there are some great names available. This is a first-come, first-served basis and there is no application fee. Registration fees are US$140 per year and cheaper rates for 2 and 5 year periods.
Rules for general JP domain names:
- multiple registrations are accepted
- domain names for personal use are accepted
- transfer of domain names is accepted
- Japanese characters may be used (kanji, katakana, hiragana) as well as English characters, combinations are also accepted
- For ASCII English alphabets and numbers, min characters is 3 and max is 63
- For domains containing Japanese characters, min characters is 1 and max is 15
